Inequality

Inequality is something that hinders equality within the justice system and how criminals are treated based off who they are. How can we put our trust into our legal system if they continue to fail us citizens in all aspects. The justice system fails citizens by victimizing them. Many people fall victim to the justice system from police brutality, wrongful convictions, and stereotyping. There were many incidents in which we placed our trust and protection into the hands of law enforcement for situations to end tragically. These factors play a significant role in the inequality that has stained the world we live in. How does inequality impact law enforcement? Officers are placed into positions in which they sacrifice their well-being and lives each day in an attempt to prevent and tackle crime. In most cases they do so successfully, and the other chances become slim as things escalate between law enforcement and citizens. Situations escalate due to police brutality. Police brutality has become something that has placed strain and mistrust on the community. Citizens are victimized by law enforcement due to their excessive force on an individual. Many tragedies have stunned our nation many times as police brutality escalated to lives being taken.

 

A young man named Trayvon Martin was un-alived by a community watchman on February 26th in Florida. Martin was walking back to his father’s apartment from a local convenient store. He was reported and approached by George Zimmerman, an armed watchman from the neighborhood who thought Martin was armed and suspicious. As a result, he approached Martin although he was ordered not to by local authorities and fired his weapon at Martin, taking his life. This tragedy caused the nation to move in solidarity for the inequality and injustice behavior from the people we put our trust into whether it is watchmen, law enforcement, or justice system. After this tragic incident it sparked major controversy and developed a movement called the Black Lives Matter Movement. This movement was formed in 2013. The Black Lives Matter Movement is a decentralized political and social movement whose goal is to expose and highlight racism, discrimination, and racial inequality experienced by minorities.  It is essential to shed light on the issues of inequality and its impact on the people and our justice system, because we have to reconstruct the relationship between the two in order to create peace and solidarity.
