Injustice
When we speak of injustice, there are many ways that injustice can ruin a person's life.
From society’s perspective the unjust behaviors from law enforcement have sparked major controversy. Across the United States, many interactions between law enforcement and citizens end fatally due to the excessive force by law enforcement. These behaviors are typically aimed toward minorities. Injustice presents itself when there are unfair outcomes in solving crime. Injustice has various forms which are wrongful convictions, police brutality, and more. Why does the system continue to fail us citizens? The system can be corrupt and even biased. As a result, it becomes personal as it interferes with the way our justice system operates in order to prevent and stop crime. According to the Innocence Project, only one percent of the United States prison population approximately 20,000 people are wrongfully convicted. Individuals are stripped of their rights, well-being, and freedom for something they didn’t do. Wrongful convictions and police brutality play a major role in the physical and mental aspect in coping with the drastic and traumatic experiences one endures through the process.
Martin Luther King Jr once quoted that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. This quote is significant because all who are mistreated, victimized, and wrongfully convicted suffer for a long time, and are eventually proven innocent. When someone is proved to be innocent and finally able to live in their truth. However, the threat to justice everywhere is that there are so many others across the world who are going through the same thing and are unable to live in their truth because of limited resources and recognition.
